The garden at Bolwick Hall will be open for the National Garden Scheme on Sunday 31 May, 2026.
There will also be further opportunities to visit the garden on Sundays in June and July 2026, please check back here for dates.
Bolwick Hall was built in 1800 on the site of a much older manor house, mentioned in the Domesday book. The manor was given by King John to Henry de Bolevic, hence the name of the property became Bolwick Hall.
The gardens were laid out by Humphry Repton, though whether it was by him or one of his family (his two sons were garden designers), we do not really know as there is no ‘red book’. However, the garden bears many of the hallmarks of a Repton garden: the lake curving around so that you don’t see the far end of it, the kitchen garden surrounded by trees rather than by a wall and the double yew hedge.
Much work has been undertaken over the past 20 years to create a garden that retains its structure but has newer planting areas.
